ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND THERAPY

Holistic approaches to horse care focus on all aspects of the horse's health, physical, mental, and emotional. Often working in conjunction with conventional health care methods, alternative approaches include bodywork, the use of herbal and nutritional supplements, and therapeutic techniques for both horse and rider.

So-called alternative medicine for horses evaluates a horse's needs on a case-by-case basis, looking at the overall circumstances under which a horse is kept. A practitioner evaluates such things as the horse's likelihood of exposure to diseases, worms, infections etc. and then determines what medical treatment (if any) that individual horse needs. Holistic approaches to horse health care typically involve the use of herbals, different forms of bodywork, and energy balancing.
